#1 - GENDER STEREOTYPES: The Committees of Advertising Practice ban gender stereotypes

According to Campaign Live, The Committees of Advertising Practice plan to ban gender stereotyping in the media starting 2018. As we know, advertising has a huge influence on persuading an audience to feel or think a certain way. This pertains to buying products, but also to the way people view themselves or others. Many advertisements try to relate to the everyday person which sways societal views on how we should act as women and men. Apart from being socialized since childhood, advertisements also play a role in teaching us how men are supposed to behave and how women are supposed to behave. With this new advertising codes, harmful gender stereotypes will be banned from production which will end at least one form of media that has been adding to the problem.
