#2 - GENDER STEREOTYPES: Study shows affects that gender stereotypes in media have on children

According to CNN, a recent study shows how gender stereotypes in the media have long-lasting effects on children. The current media that kids are consuming on a daily basis constantly exposes them to what men are suppose to act like and what women are suppose to act like. This study looked at over 150 articles, books, movies, and tv shows to look for the gender stereotypes that are portrayed in the media. After analyzing the content, this study shows that media is more effective in teaching young kids what our culture expects of them and their opposite sex than their parents are. For example, children consuming media at the age of 6 years old showed to understand certain skills associated to gender such as girls "cook in the kitchen."
