#7 GENDER STEREOTYPES: 'brilliance=men' stereotype
A common gender stereotype in the history of American films is that men have higher cognitive abilities than women do. A study by VOX looked at the way films are proven to show men being "brilliant" and intellectually superior to women. They collected data from the IMBd database to select films to review. Their results show that the 'brilliance=men' stereotype is clearly present in the majority of films over the past 50 years. They also noticed that this stereotype was most common in films aimed towards children which shows the early adoption of this stereotype.
