#9 - GENDER STEREOTYPES: Sexist behaviors in children tv shows
In 2017, Refinery 29 looked into sexism in children's tv shows. They found that even tv shows targetting infants and toddlers showed sexist behavior through male characters and made sexist remarks. Also, they noticed the difference in the female characters behavior compared to the behavior of the males. Male characters were risk-takers, leaders, opinionated and were shown to be humorous. However, the females were agreeable, accommodating, and shown to care about their appearance. By showing these behaviors in children's tv shows, the young audience is consuming media that tells them the way girls and boys should act in society. These shows eventually develop sexist attitudes among the young audience.
